Early Years: 2004 to present

Early in his career John O’Callaghan worked closely with British DJ John Askew who is also label manager of Discover Records.  In addition to releasing most of his tracks on Discover between 2004 and 2007 he produced a number of collaborations with Askew, including ‘Game Over’ (Discover 2005) and the ‘Dark Arts’ E.P. (Discover 2006).  O’Callaghan released two albums on Discover, including an original artist album ‘Something To Live For’ and a DJ mix compilation ‘Live As... Vol 2’ (both 2007).

Later in 2007 O’Callaghan signed to Dutch Trance superstar Armin van Buuren’s Armada record group.    It was here that O’Callghan’s breakthrough came with the vocal trance track ‘Big Sky’ (2007 Armind). ‘Big Sky’ featured the style elements that would come to characterize many of O’Callaghan’s other future successes, namely a driving trance bass and rhythm supporting dreamy pads and a big haunting female vocal. Northern Irish duo Agnelli and Nelson perfected the formula in their high energy remix of ‘Big Sky’ which also proved to be the most successful version of the track which was voted as ‘Tune of The Year’ by listeners of Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance radio show.

Though O’Callaghan continues to release on other record labels, including Sander van Doorn’s Doorn Records and Paul van Dyk’s Vandit, his big successes have come on van Buuren’s labels, including albums such as ‘Subculture’ and ‘Never Fade Away’ (both Armada 2007).

And O’Callaghan’s most successful track to date, 2009’s ‘Find Yourself’ was released on Armada’s Captivating Sounds.  Featuring Sarah Howells haunting vocals ‘Find Yourself’ proved a success both on the dance floor and on radio and music TV.  Female vocals have continued to feature regularly on O’Callaghan releases, such as ‘Out Of Nowhere’ and ‘Take It All Away’ (both Armind 2009).

In 2009 O'Callghan became the first Irishman to play 'Trance Energy'.

John O’Callaghan is a prolific producer who has a string of successful vocal trance tracks to his name.  Unlike many of other vocal trance producers O’Callaghan often uses harder, driving beats giving his sound a more distinct feel.  His strong links with Armin van Buuren’s Armada Music group suggests that he will continue to be a success for years to come.
